DOCTRINE.

do you believe you're being watched — if so, you would be right. have care.

content. ⸻⸻

We cannot stress enough that there will be much darker themes and topics of the following: ritualism, blood, death, magic, sex, gore just to name a few. This will be a venue targeted towards the 21+ crowd. That being said, do not be blatantly NSFW in the public space, you may do so in /tells or in a party.

respect. ⸻⸻

Any bigotry is not to be tolerated and consent amongst all parties is not a suggestion. It is a requirement. To respect your fellow roleplayers is to communicate, to check-in and interact without judgement. If someone tells you to stop doing something, it is in your best interest to stop, pause and check in. Failure to do so will result in a ban from the premises.

chat usage. ⸻⸻

Venue announcements will be displayed as /shout while fights will be displayed as /yell. If you are a venue-goer and not a staff member or fighting, do not use these two categorizations. It will end up confusing for everyone else. If there is a verbal ask for lightless in the chat, know in advance that we do not have one. We will not have one.

service. ⸻⸻

Any staff member may deny service for any reason whatsoever. Do remember that behind the character is an actual person and if they feel uncomfortable for any reason, they may choose to stop interacting. Our hosts and workers will have a /lfm tag on while the proprietor or manager will have a /pf tag. Please use the /roleplaying tag should you wish to be interacted with. We will do our best to get to you.

BENEATH     the illustrious halls and walls of Ishgard's most wealthy lies catacombs upon catacombs of hidden magic and eldritch secrets within the depths. the walls breathe. the building reacts. the nameless one is merely the heart, the brain, the fangs. when one walks in, the air is heavy, the aether is dense, chills run up spines. it's easy to tell that this place is hostile, but never without reason. if the building could eat one whole, it might, provided the blood shed is tempting enough.nepenthe only serves to be a conduit to the strange occurrences dormant and waiting for one to sink deeper. this piece of the underdark is reigned by unknown forces, the aether runs thick and to those accustomed to the surface, there is only a distinct feeling of pure and utter dread that sinks in the longer one stays. to others, it's peace. to the silent order, it's all they know.this place is a bridge. from mhach, to the underdark and then, to the surface. if one needs something or someone to be hunted, come find the nameless. if one needs alchemical or ritualistic assistance, find the oracle. if one's mere curiosity takes them here, perhaps its best to request the presence of someone within the silent order but careful; do not sink too deep, lest one be caught in the web.

in character ruleset. ⸻⸻

I. ⸻⸻

what is spoken and done in nepenthe must stay in nepenthe.

II. ⸻⸻

the walls breathe. the statues have eyes. don't bring attention to it.

III. ⸻⸻

respect the nameless, respect the staff. yes, even the strange, uncanny bartender.

IV. ⸻⸻

handle your fights on the bloodstone if you must have them.

V. ⸻⸻

dress appropriately. whether that is formal attire or armor is dependent on if you are fighting or not.

VI. ⸻⸻

lay a hand on the staff or, thal forbid, the nameless and the building will see to it personally that you do not have hands.

VII. ⸻⸻

unwarranted violence is unacceptable. one is able to be classy and brutal. act accordingly.

FIGHTS.

do you believe you're being watched — if so, you would be right. have care.

sink to the depths. ⸻⸻

NEPENTHE     is unique in the sense of what is allowed on the bloodstone and how the building reacts to fighting. A haven for those who found their comfort and home in the Underdark of Gelmorra or Mhach, the establishment stays true to the ideals by allowing maiming, dismemberment and killing; if both parties are accepting of it. For that aspect, we have four types of matches that could occur.

  1. mourner ; a fight with only fists. no magic is permitted during this kind of match. low risk. no maiming, dismemberment or killing.

  2. asphodel ; a fight with weapons. no magic. low to medium risk. no dismemberment or killing.

  3. styx ; a fight with weapons. magic allowed. medium to high risk. no killing allowed.

  4. elysian ; a fight where one can go all out. everything is allowed. high to extremely high risk. resurrection is possible by the nameless or morneux.

HERE ,     death and resurrection have real consequences. One may lose a part of themselves, some part of them may alter. If one would like to participate in an Elysian match, do know the risk and do roleplay it out as one sees fit.

rules. ⸻⸻

I.

grindstone ruleset. first to three wins.

II.

adhere to the rules of the match type.

III.

the ring has an aetheric ward from letting magic get out, go wild.

IV.

fighters must use /yell for their posts.

V.

nepenthe has a 'killing blow' mechanic only available in elysian matches. if the final hit the attacker needs to win rolled is 950 - 999, the attacker has effectively killed their opponent. the only time this is not applicable is if both parties have discussed beforehand that one of them is to die.

VI.

each person in the ring must make their limits apparent to the announcer and their opponent. these limits are typically more specific than the match type. for example: you are doing a styx match but you do not want your arm lopped off or your eyes gouged out.

VII.

all magic is permissible within styx and elysian fights. this includes void magic, blood magic and any other forms. this is superseded only by limits set by the fighters.

VIII.

if one gets on the bloodstone and ignores a limit that was spoken, they are punished heavily. an eye for an eye.

NEPENTHE     is, intrinsically, a darker and mature space for roleplay and mind, it's better to build rapport with the staff in order to work here. Nepenthe is not a place that readily will accept everyone — but rather, will hire those with a few qualifying identifiers below:

  1. 'friend of' or affiliated with the silent order — an easy way to have nameless say 'yes' is by simply being a friend of the silent order or being involved with it. if one does not know what it is, it might help to know they're, secretly but publicly, a group of hunters that hunt the supernatural.

  2. eccentric looking for a home — there has been a recent tendency to take in folks that seem as though they have nowhere to stay. there is more leniency for these folk.

  3. heretics or otherwise outcasts — those rejected by the surface, elementals, temple knights or otherwise. you'll be welcomed here.

  4. voidsent, ashkin or nightkin — in ishgard, the undercroft of the fortress might be the only space where any of these demographics might feel safe. one won't be judged.

THAT SAID ,     just because one character may not fit doesn't mean that you, the mun, are barred from working here! It just requires a bit of rapport to see if you enjoy the space first before even thinking about working for the place. If you are thinking about working at Nepenthe, please don't hesitate to message The Nameless and you'll be responded to ASAP.
